She had wanted to be there for him, even though she was aware of the risks. It went against her better judgement of course, for a battlefield was no place for an expecting mare. But it still took a good convincing to keep Kasra where she was, and so it was in the safe oasis that the mare kept refuge. She would watch over his land until he returned with news. Of course the mare had to worry for her mate. Anything could happen in a duel such as that. It was the lack of knowledge about the challenger that frightened Kasra. What if the other stallion was stronger? What if he seriously harmed Rafael? It was thoughts like these that kept the mare worried.
Occasionally, she told herself that she had to calm down and simply wait for her love to return. All this worrying wasn't good for her or her unborn child. Once in a while the worry would creep back into her mind, and she'd repeat the cycle. "Oh, where is my dear Rafael?" the mare wondered. She just wished he'd return already. Staying cooped up in this oasis alone was not exactly how she'd wish to spend her time waiting, but with the rest of the territory basically too hot for her to navigate through, she didn't have many options.

Rafael He'd left her in the oasis, a wonderful place for an expecting mare of the desert. At least that's what this stallion assumed. The king returned to his kingdom swiftly, and with no threatening injuries to slow him down. His bay marked legs stretched out in front of him as he galloped across the sands.
He couldn't get her face out of his head, her perfect, red face. She was waiting, and a queen should never be kept waiting. He slowed slightly as he passed what he swore was her scent, trotting around in curves to find it again. Ah, it was her. At last he was home. Kasra.
There was a slight hill around the edge of the oasis, hiding it from those who didn't know how to look in the desert. Rafael knew it was there, he felt it beneath him as he began to climb. The king had returned, and he saw his growing queen. Kasra. His voice carried ever-so-lightly on the dry air, drifting towards her slowly. ooc : wow, guess we know whos gonna wear the pants in this family.... coughKasracough hahaha. xD

Her heart fluttered when she heard his voice calling her name. It did that all the time, but this time was different. Now most of her worry vanished. He was ok. Alive, obviously. Kasra had a stomach-churning feeling within her, and she knew for a fact that it wasn't their child. "Rafael!" she whinnied happily. The mare, not quite physically fit to burst into a full-on gallop, quickly trotted to where she had heard his echoing voice. "Rafael?" She quickly remembered that she didn't remember every little space in the Far South yet. She was still a newcomer technically; she and Rafael fell in love quite quickly, probably much faster than most. Still being new, it could have been quite simple for her to get lost, so she ended the pursuit of her love and waited for him to come to her. Besides, she was getting tired already.
She called to her stallion once more, hoping that he'd get there faster. Kasra wasn't impatient, she was worried. Only when he got close enough to touch would she be relieved.

Rafael Rafael watched, slightly amused as his queen trotted excitably about before coming to a halt and calling out to him again. She was closer to where he was, a good sign in any equine showing she knew where she was and what surrounded her. Still the dun mare was out of fair sight, farther up the waters beach then he was.
She was obviously still carrying his child, and obviously slightly distressed. Kasra. He called out once more before reviling himself to her. He jumped out from the light oasis cover, galloping into the water a few feet before veering towards her. There he stood, his hooves submerged in the cool water and his tail dripping lightly behind him. I'm home. He reassured his new queen.
